To mount your needlework in our open frame kits (available for sale here) follow these steps:
One. Center your needlework over the batting covered mount board provided. Mark where the edges of the board hit the fabric, with a pencil. You will be stretching the fabric over the board and attaching it with the pressure adhesive on the back of the board. If you mark your fabric with a pencil line falling in the valley between fabric threads it will be easy to see that you are stretching it straight.
Two. Remove the cover paper from the adhesive on the back of the mount board. Stretch your needlework over the mount board, lining up the pencil lines with red edges of the board and stick to the exposed adhesive on the back. This may take some adjusting back and forth until it is straight. When you get the lines straight be sure to rub the fabric to the adhesive very tightly.
Three. Trim the excess fabric off at the edge of the adhesive with a razor blade or mat knife.
Four. Pull the corners tight with a mitered fold and rub it to the adhesive along the fold. The fabric will stand up from the mount board. Stitch the fabric along that fold tight next to the mount board. You will be stitching the end fabric to the side fabric. Pull the fabric above the stitched line open and lay it down flat with the tip of the corner pointing along the stitched fold you just made. Crease the fabric into folds where it lays along the edges of the mount board. Stitch the folds to the fabric at the edge of the mount board flat along the side and end of the board. Make sure you can't see that fabric or stitches from the front. Do all four corners in this manner.
If you want to use glue instead of stitching the corners just glue along the mitered fold that you rubbed down really tightly, making sure to get the glue into the tip at the corner of the mount board. The glue needs to touch the mount board along the fold. Rub down the fold and glue and let dry. When dry trim off the excess material with a razor blade making it a smooth glued edge. If the corner tip is shaggy add a little more glue and place pieces of tape over the edges of the board from front to back to hold the loose ends in the glue while it dries. Remove the tape carefully when the glue is dry.
Five. Remove the paper from the adhesive on the foam board in the center of the frame and place your mounted stitching on it, pressing hard to make sure it adheres tightly. Display on an easel or small shelf. You can add small screw eyes to the top of the frame if you wish to hang the piece on a string.
